Nonisotopic northern blot probes - (Jun/22/2011 )

Hi,
I am in process of preparing a northern blot and my current lab does not have a radioactive permit. I have never prepared a norther probe using a non-radioactive label. I was wondering if anyone used a DIG system for labeling the probes? How is the sensitivity with these systems? Or should I stick with radioactive isotopes?
I can't use qPCR since I'm looking for alternative variants of my transcript.

DIG works well, primarily limited by the sensitivity of your CCD imager (or film). I think there is very little reason for radioactivity in nucleic acid work (not true with metabolic compound labeling, e.g.).
