Nearly all lab strains are E. coli K-12 derivatives, with the exception of strains such as BL21. In particular, Top10 is a K-12 derivative. All these K-12 strains are extremely safe and non-pathogenic. P. aeruginosa is (in the US) a BL-2 organism, with potential infectious behavior. Pseudomonas fluorescens is non-pathogenic, and might be easier to work with.
