What is the difference between Km and Kd - (May/31/2011 )

Hi there,

Just trying to find out what exactly is the difference between the Michealis constant Km and the dissociation constant Kd?

Kind Regards,
LB

-Luria Bertani-

In kinase assay, the Michaelis constant Km is the substrate concentration at which the reaction rate is half of Vmax.
dissociation constant is a specific type of equilibrium constant that measures the propensity of a larger object to separate (dissociate) reversibly into smaller components, as when a complex falls apart into its component molecules, or when a salt splits up into its component ions.
