In terms of introducing foreign genetic material which translates a protein that does not originate in that organism. Exogenous expression literally means "created outside." Heterologous expression is more fitting.

I agree with you. People also say ectopic expression,forced expression, etc.

Isn't it more commonly used in the context: "expression of exogenous DNA..."? In which case it is grammatically correct.
