im looking for simple method to do this and one idea is to start doing STR profiling

does anyone has experience with that kind of tests and can suggest a kit? where to find the information about the STR profiling of a certain cell line to compare the obtained results?
does anyone know about another simple and cheep method to do cell line identification?

Hello Lora,
There is a lot of information out there these days on different methods to identify cell lines. As you point out, STR typing is one of the more popular methods. Promega has sold STR typing kits primarily developed for the forensics community, but these are finding use in the cell typing applications as well. We have actually developed the CellID system just for this purpose. These kits will work on human-derived cell lines. As for information to compare results, the ATCC has used Promega's PowerPlex 1.2 to type their human-derived cell lines and the results are reported on their website.

I hope this information at lest gets you started in understanding how you mihgt get started. If you ahve any more specific questions, I encourage you to contact Promega Technical Services.

Kind Regards,
Kevin
