What makes epigenetics a heritable trait? Is it imprinting and x-inactivation? Can histone changes also be passed on from one generation to the next.

During DNA replication epigenetic marks (i.e.-histone modifications) are preserved by keeping some histones associated with the replication template. I think CAF-1 and maybe ASF-1 histone chaperones mediate this, but i'm not 100% certain.
