HEK293T and HEK293 - (Dec/15/2010 )

Hi,

Could anyone explain why HEK393T grow much faster than HEK293? Besides transfection efficiency, is there any difference between this two cell lines?

I am a starter for mammalian cell biology. Many thanks for kind answers.

293T cells are subline of 293 cells and stably express SV40 large T antigen, G418 resistant.

Thank you very much for your answer. But do you happen to know why the expression of largr T antigen can make the cell grow faster?

T-Ag binds to Rb1 and several other proteins that inhibit cell cycle, such that the cell is forced into DNA synthesis/cycling again.

Thank you. This makes sense.
