HEK001 Cell Line and Papillomavirus - Does HEK001 cell line produce a functional papillomavirus (Nov/22/2010 )

Cells contain human papilloma viral DNA sequences.

(Papillomavirus 16 (HPV-16) E6/E7 transformed

ATCC has limited information on the cell line. From what I have found on line is min info.

What I am looking for is information on this cell line that states that the HEK001 cells can not generate a functional papillomavirus.

Any help on this would be great. I need to submit to my director a source that states that the cells "can not generate a functional papillomavirus"

I did go through the paper.

The papillomavirus 16 E6 and E7 produces an immortal keratinocyte.

I imagine the biosafety level 2 comes from the fact that the cells produce some viral proteins, but not a functional virus.

Is this correct logic?

Here is some more info I found on the virus itself:

Human epidermal T cells were transfected with a human papillomavirus 16 E6 and E7 plasmid in order to immortalize the the keratinocyte cells. They then named the cell line HEK001.

The only region they use of the viral genome is the E6 and E7 regions.

These are associated with "DISRUPTION OF CELL GROWTH CYCLES" only, hence, no generation of virus.
