dissolving flavonoids in DMSO - (Sep/16/2010 )

Hi All

I am trying to dissolve my flavonoids in dmso at a conc low enough to be not toxic to s.aureus. The problem is at a DMSO conc lower than 70% the flavonoid comes out of solution. Any suggestions?

P.S the flavonoid will not dissolve in any other solution

Thanks

what is the flavonoid? Has it been used previously? Check pubmed or google scholar - if so check the methods section usually it tells you what they used to dissolve the flavonoids.

Another idea is that if you can make a mM or M stock, then when you treat your cells you dilute it to uM concentrations. I done this before with a compound I dissolved at 20mM, then I used a 200uM working stock and a range between 2-20uM for treatment concentrations.

My suggestion is more or less the same, I don't know which flavonoid you are dealing with, but I had to work with quite some different flavonoids. They are very difficult to dissolve. What I did is to dissolve them in high conc. such as 100mM and then dilute them with the certain solution I use for my cell experiment when I need to use them. Some times I needed to do it in a 60 centidegrees water bath.

I also make 100 mM stock and then dilute them to get thE desired uM and nM concentrations.
