What is the epitope of acetylated tubulin antibody? - (Mar/30/2010 )

Hello,

I am using an anti-acetylated tubulin antibody for my western blots and I just wanted to know what the exact epitope it binds to. From what I've read previously, it may bind to the acetylated Lysine 40 residue, but if this is the case, wouldn't the antibody pick up acetylated lysine residues on other proteins besides the tubulin? My guess is that there is a specific epitope, in addition to the acetylated lysine group, that the anti-acetylated tubulin antibody binds to. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

what does the information sheet that comes with the antibody say?

if you don't have the info sheet then check the manufacturer's website or contact them some other way.

Different companies have different antibodies directed against different epitopes. Is the antibody monoclonal or polyclonal? If polyclonal, it has potentially many epitopes on the tubulin.

the specification sheet is the best information. However, manufacturers may not screen all potentially cross-reactive agents. Depending upon your application, you should run anything that might interfere with your results. For example: immunoassays for amphetamine using monoclonal ab...ab cross reacts with many structurally similiar compounds.

Most companies seem to sell the same monoclonal clone 6-11B-1.
This recognizes acetylated lysine 40.
