culture medium - remove something (Dec/23/2009 )

We would like to study the effect of some growth factors in cell culture.
I think an important step is to remove those growth factors from medium.

Can anyone give some suggestion on how o remove those growth factors from medium, or we should pay for the company to get those growth factors free medium.

Serum-free media would accomplish this. Basal media do not have any GF's, just salts, vitamins, amino acids, glucose, and occasionally nucleosides. You can then build your specific 'defined' media formulation upon this base

In my serum free experiments, I add ITS+ supplement from BD which contains Insulin, BSA, apo-transferrin, and sodium selenite and simple fatty acids, and then add whatever GF I'm interested in studying.
