Summary: Alkaline phosphatase is a stem cell membrane marker and elevated expression of this enzyme is associated with undifferentiated pluripotent stem cell. All primate pluripotent stem cells, like Embryonic stem (ES), embryonic germ (EG) and embryonal carcinoma (EC) cells, express alkaline phosphatase activity. There are different methods of detecting AP such as methods based on enzymatic reaction followed by colorimetric or fast red violet dye, fluorescent detection and immunostaining.
