proteins, new ones?

31 May 2011 - 04:09 AM

Hallo,

I was wondering how you can prove that new proteins are being made.
For example: if a bacteria or virus infects a cell, then how can you prove they are making new proteins in that cells/outside the cell.

I can understand you can simply collect all the proteins and then check them one by one, but is this not too much time consuming?

Are there other methods to prove this?

problem on virus

Hallo all,

I was reading something on a virus, however I have the following question:
How can you prove or know that the viral DNA is transported activly or via free diffusion?

This was not mentioned in the paper I was reading (not important for the paper), but I wonder how you can prove this, because it seems rather important to know if its free diffusion or not.

And a second question: has anyone a good book on viruses? A good title for students to use to study?
