Bob, just to make sure. Do you mean to sterilize the surface of the tissue sample?

In Topic: 9CFR virus testing (on bovine serum)

The thing is, we produce serum ourselves and as of now send samples to an overseas lab in the US (as we are located in Australia) to be tested. We would like to start testing ourselves. And therefore need to get hold of the necessary antibodies.

Hey guys, thanks for your ideas.
@fraffly: I am not reusing flasks, i grow cells on disposable plasicware.

I grew the cells for a few days on coverslips and stained them with crystal violet.

I am sorry for the poor quality pictures, but we do not have a proper camera setup on the microscope, so I am using a regular digital cam and hold it to the eyepiece ;-)

I just found this on wikipedia, it looks quite like the things I observe under the microscope:

I might have caught a virus then ;-(

In Topic: What is the activity of 1X Trypsin solutions?

10 September 2012 - 07:20 PM

alright, I got a little further in my research.

Turns out that "Trypsin 1:250" simply means "trypsin with an activity of 250 USP/mg".

That means a 1 liter 0.25% 1X solution contains 2500 mg Trypsin 1:250

That would make a total activity of: 2500 mg * 250 USP/mg = 625000 USP/L or 625 USP/mL

That means if i wanted to make a 1X 0.25% solution with the Trypsin I have here (~4000 USP) I would need 625000 / 400 =156.25 mg
