Could anyone provide some suggestions for working with HepG2 cells?  I have some cells that were frozen by a previous lab member.  They are at passage 76.  When I thaw them and culture according to ATCC, most of the cells are floating by the next day.  I have had the cells growing for over two weeks now, and have some clumps of cells, but nothing is spreading out on the plate, and I don't think that they will ever reach confluencey.  Is the passage number too high?  Would I be better off ordering new cells from ATCC?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I suspect the cells will not survive; those clumps you are seeing will likely be quite different to the parent line.  You will be better off getting some more.
