This is from the Sydney Morning Herald website:

I was not too far away from here on the weekend, and the temperature was 46 C in the afternoon... A huge bubble of hot air has been moving across the country over the last week or so. To make matters worse, we have had kids deliberately setting fires, and today we had a report a drug lab was torched just before the cops raided it, causing a fire west of Sydney. Now that's real smart...

yes it looks scary but why they don't remove the trees and bushes around such important buildings?

well, at least here, they are not really near the city centres but a bit off- track and the observatories are built on top of hills so you don't want the site overlooking concrete or barren land...

I guess they are so far from cities to avoid the light pollution of cities that disturbs the instruments...and do have astronomers a view for the surrounding landscape?

well, that too of course, but the astronomers have to look down some time or else develop a permanent crick in the neck...or at least to check if they have matching socks....
