Does anyone know if the NP-40 that comes with the NEB PNGase F kit is actually nonidet p-40 or the tergitol-type NP-40???
Is it pretty safe to assume in molecular biology that nearly any protocol that mentions "NP-40" is really referring to nonidet p-40 (now ipegal)?

This is driving me nuts!

Thanks.

Can you get the MSDS for the kit?  If so, then you may be able to see the CAS number for the NP-40.  You can then match the CAS number to tergitol NP-40 or nonidet NP-40 and see which one it matches
