Hi,

Is there a way to get rid of the fungus growing on my SDS PAGE gel? I still need it for silver stain but it got fungus growing all over

How long have you been keeping your gel???? I really would be interested which fungus can grow on a PAGE-gel.....just for curiosity could you post a picture of the fungus?

But you will have to re-do the gel....the fungus will have interfered with your analysis.

Gebirgsziege - yes, it does happen, especially when you leave gel in tap water in open container for couple of weeks.

To prevent growth of moulds we usually keep our gels in DI water with sodium azide.

cool I knew fungi can grow in acrinorange and ethidium bromide, so another strange habitat for fungi here!

But I think you cannot rescue these gels?

We always store gels fixed and stained and in most cases already photographed so we don't worry much if they get moldy. You may try to wash gel in water and gently scrub mold from gel with sponge, it won't be pretty but better than nothing.
