How to interpret the gi no.?

gi|133779217|gb|EF122232.1

what does 'gb' stand for???
some are 'emb' instead of 'gb'.

There are three major sequence repositories: Genbank, EMBL, and DDBJ, located in the US, Europe, and Japan. They share sequence information every evening, and share accession numbers for those sequences. The gb stands for Genbank.
