Why the SDS gel should have to run vertically, why not it can be run like DNA gel.

Sure it can, just have to figure out how to load the protein lysate in such (horizontal) orientation

You can pour slab acrylamide gels, but it is difficult to keep them from warping as you run them. They also don't set so well being exposed to a lot of oxygen with the open face.
