One must presume that long and short arguments contribute to the same end. - Epicurus
...except casandra's that belong to the funniest, most interesting and imaginative (or over-imaginative?) ones, I suppose.

With the WHO and CDC senationalizing the oprev swine flu, SARS, mad cow, bird flu - alot of folks, inclduing alot of scientists, have trouble seeing tis one as the real wolf. And we can't forget to follow the money. FDA's funding will certainly increase and nothing substantial has been promised the CDC so far. Nothing like a good "pandemic" to get funding going.

Obviously, I can't say anything about the probablility of it happening, but let us not forget that the 1917-18 swine flu started as a mild spring flu, disappeared over the summer, and returned in the winter in a more virulent form and killed millions.
then heaven will be yours, before you meet your end

this is what we're most concerned about but then we should also consider that we're in so much better condition now than the people were at that time in terms of health care and quality of life, we've got better tools for monitoring etc, more medical expertise, better drugs, and hopefully no corpses strewn in the streets contaminating land and water supplies...
and for some artistic comic business-as-usual relief, check THIS AD out...

The moving eye of the chronophage (the big weird creature that is also the escapement of the clock) you can see in my profile.
