Hi

Is it better to design probes for PCR analysis or probes for southen blotting, if I am trying to detect bacteriophage-like sequences?

If my products from my PCR gels are over 300bp longer than the expected size, does this suggest my PCR primers are not specific?

Hi,
1. PCR is more simple procedure than Southern.
2. is the 300 bp longer products the only product from your PCR? Try to increase the annealing temperature?
3. what is the template? are you running pcr or rt-pcr?
