Hi,

I have been successfully extracting plasmid fragments from 2mls of FCS by using Qiagens Gel Extraction Kit by adding the required 6mls (3vols) of buffer QG. This is proving expensive and I would like to replace the QG with a another chaotropic salt solution. Has anyone had success using KI solutions with the kit? Can anyone suggest another salt.

You can try Guanidine HCl. It's a pretty potent chaotrope.
