Hello.
I am hoping someone may be able to clear up some terms I have come across about cells that I can't seem to find much information on.
First term is microcell. This is what I found at:
2 (microcell) An experimentally produced body consisting of a nucleus surrounded by a thin layer of cytoplasm and a plasma membrane and containing variable numbers of chromosomes. It is used as a vector for transferring one or several chromosomes into a normal cell following cell fusion.
And the following at:
(biology) A simple cell consisting of a nucleus and protoplasm within a membrane
And that's about it - no longer description.
If further explanation could be offered it would be appreciated.
Similarly I came across the term mini-cell and again at:
I found this.
A small roughly spherical cell produced by the abnormal division of a rod-shaped bacterium that contains no chromosomal DNA and is unable to grow or divide. It is used experimentally to express nucleic acids and proteins encoded by DNA introduced to the cell, e.g. in the form of a cloning vector.
And I could not find anything further - like an extended article.
Finally I saw the term whole cell referred to in the following article:
Again no luck finding further amplification of the term.
Any explanation, amplification, reading links would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
