I was trying to establish liver tumour in the minipig. Does any body know is there any liver tumour model in pig? There are no pig hepatocellular canccer cell lines availaible.
I injected human HCC cell line (HepG2) in a mini pig (SPF) through portal vein and gave them immunosuppression, I had thought that portal tolerance and immunosuppression will allow the tumour cells to grow in the liver, but after 6 weeks nothing happened. Tumour marker ( Alfa feto protein ) increased in the first week, then normalised. There was no evedence of any tumour at the end of 6 week.
Has any body got any experience with such an experiment? Can you tell me the causes of failure?
Are there any papers or internet site for further information?
