The pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders is quite complex and not well understood.
I assume many soluble molecules, cell surface/membrane molecules, and cells (let's call all these three as SMC) are implicated.
I suppose we could categorise the above in two categories. The one is the SMC that are extremely specific to the tissues that are attacked and the other is the SMC that is non specific to the tissues that are attacked.
For example, I assume interleukines, tumor necrosis factors, macrophages are not specific. They are implicated in any inflammatory process.
Can anyone help me list the specific SMC implicated in autoimmune disorders?
For start, I assume there are specific auto-antibodies implicated.
What else? What about surface/membrane molecules, specific cells or other soluble molecules?
