This may be general knowledge to genetics experts out there, but I have a question regarding how to estimate carrier probabilities.

Let's say the MAF at a given allele is 0.12 in a population in HWE. What is then the probability for an individual in that population of carrying that allele (on 1 or both chromosomes)? I am curious to know whether there are different ways of calculating this.

Thanks in advance,
Tina
