Hi everyone

We have recently constructed a promoterless reporter unit containing EMCV IRES-GFP-SV40 Poly A. After transfection into CHO cells we were surprised to see strong GFP expression in at least 70 percent of cells after 24 hours while we did not have any kind of promoter upstream of the unit. As far as I know IRES helps in cap independent translation. Is it possible that the IRES cause transcription of the GFP?

Thanks
