I'm attempting to generate a humoral response against an antigen and will be using a terminal-cysteine conjugated peptide conjugated to KLH.  I'm considering using Thermo's imject KLH maleimde for this purpose.  I have a few questions regarding this:

Is the gel filtration/dialysis/desalting step really needed to remove EDTA?  EDTA is generally tolerable at small doses in mice (the host I'll be using).

How do I verify/quantify conjugation efficiency?

Thanks.
