I wanted to know how can i homogenize my brain samples. We have a motorized mortar and pestle which i use. I usually add 80 ul of my RNA extraction buffer (Zymogen) and homogenize it but it produces a lot of foam.

I have read about denaturation solution for homogenization and followed by RNA extraction. Is it a good idea to homogenize it using the denaturation solution (made up of formaldehyde, formamide and MOPS)? Guess the MOPS won't produce foaming as well? What else can be used in place of the denaturation solution which won't create a foam?

PS: I cannot use liquid nitrogen as a solution.

Thanks :)
