I'm trying to convert 293 HEK cells from adherent cells growing in standard DMEM + serum to serum free media in suspension.  I recently used both Gibco's offering (CD 293) and JRH's version (EX-CELL 293).  
Following the protocols the cells show initial growth for a couple of days, but once I split them they proceed to stop growing and slowly die off.

Does anyone have experience with converting 293s or a favorite media/protocol?

I've been culturing 293 cells for long time, never did this happened to me. I'm using DMEM from Cellgro : 10-17-CV
