I want to treat rice leaves with methyl jasmonate and then isolate genes from them via extraction of total RNA.I wanted to know whether methyl jasmonate is the equivalent of jasmonic acid in this case?

Will I get the same results if treat the rice leaves with jasmonic acid? I will be trying to isolate defense related genes, so will it work?

I want ot know as methly jasmonate is very costly compared to jasmonic acid.

Please let me know.
