Whenever I do MIC experiment for E. coli using Glycolaldehyde conc of 5, 4.5, 4, 2 and 0 mM in a medium containing mineral salts and 5% xylose, E. coli can grow on 4 mM to OD of ~ 1.4. Then when I try to grow E. coli again on 4 mM solution, it does not grow. The only difference is that in the first case we prepare 5 mM solution and make dilutions and in the second one we prepare 4 mM directly. It is good to know that glycolaldehyde comes as dimer and we heat this dimer at 65 degrees for 10 min to convert it to a monomer. For example, to prepare 5 mM solution, we heat 2.5 mM solution of the dimer at 65 degrees for 10 min. I appreciate any hint, thanks
