Hi,
I recently prepared some RNA using the RNeasy kit. I got it from the freezer today and the samples really smell like bleach. I believed I followed the protocol correctly. The only variation was that I used my own DEPC treated water. Any ideas of what could have caused this? Thank you

After autoclaved, the degradated DEPC becomes the mixture of alcohol and some lipin, it smells like this, and it just work well.

And some say that DEPC treated water should be autoclaved for more than one times to inactive and evaporate the DEPC, and this will deminish the nausty smell.
Hope this help you!
