I've been doing some paraffin sectioning, and I've noticed that sometimes after I melt the sections the wax gets this mottled look rather than melting smoothly. Sometimes it is only one or two slides from the same block. I thought it might be because they weren't air dried long enough before melting, and there is still water beneath the sections. However, the last set of blocks I cut were air dried for a few hours before being heated, and still had this problem. I generally air dry the slides on edge while cutting and then melt at 37 deg C overnight. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
