Overshooting pH of 0.5 M EDTA

Hi Guys,

 

A little help pls...

 

I added excess NaOH in preparing the 0.5 M EDTA overshooting the pH to 11.0, so I adjusted the pH using concd HCl. Unfortunately, I added excess HCl and EDTA started to solidify. This made me add NaOH again and finally I adjusted the pH of the solution to 8.0. Is this solution still valid for molecular biology use? If it is not, pls explain why..Thanks in advance.

Well, it now has additional salt in it, which may or may not be an issue, depending on amounts and applications. Given the concentration EDTA is normally used at (1 mM) the salt is unlikely to have much effect.

My concern is on the electrophoresis applications. Will the extra salt have an ill effect in the electrophoretic process?
