Hi, can someone explain the steps one should follow to design a PCR based detection method to identify an unknown virus, or a novel serotypes of virus/ strains of bacteria etc. whose sequence information has not known yet?

Thanks

or using universal primers for e.g. bacteria for a first amplification and then sequencing this locus/these loci
