It's the same as asking why the thing you are looking for is always in the last place you are looking for it.
(it's because you stop looking for it when you find it)
the heart is beating all your life, because when it stops, you die, and this is obviously the end of your life

No, little mouse. I might want to disagree. Stopping of heart beating is not always same as death. Death of brain is the criteria.

OK then sometime the heart beats all of your life, and even more. But when it stops, the brain won't survive for a long time and it is still quite the end of the life. (let's keep all the medical apparatus appart, this is not physiological)
