nope, it's The Red Room, a satire of Stockholm society..and in this quote, the protagonist was talking with the waiter.....am not sure if there's any mention of absinthe in Inferno but yup, it's autobiographical..dealt more with the occult and his personal demons...he's one crazy dude....

but I guess the modern day cowboy would use either or...
dudes hunting for clues eh? So most probably not from hardcore super spy fiction but just regular sleuthy....how about from one of Spillane's Hammer novels? Or from any of the Queens of Crime novels- Allingham's or Sayers (we already had Christie before)? More clues please?

It's not one of the "Dark Tower" series by Stephen King?  I think they mostly use revolvers in that though.
