No, I was thinking of using a quote from Bukowski though.

OK, a relatively obscure one:

Quote

On the floor, and hanging on to the bar, squatted an old man, immobile as an object. His years had reduced and polished him as water does a stone or the generations of men do a sentence.
awww....this is a difficult one without further clues, bob1...(there goes my time zone advantage....) could be from one of Jack Landon's stories or Vargas Llosa's?

Oooh close.  This is an author who once said that the Nobel committee had made it a habit not to award him the prize. Blinded by his brilliance I am sure!

:P Vargas Llosa could have said it too before 2010 .....but yup, Borges could have written the quote and he's brilliant and "humble", very innovative, a genius...for sure, it's from one of the stories in Ficciones but I don't think it's The Garden...my alltime favourite is The Secret Miracle but I don't think the quote is from there....

utopia of a tired man then ? Don't know what its about, but the title sounds promising - could refer to an old man...

first my idea was Mark Twain (but did Nobel prizes exist at his time?) anyway now it's more José Saramago with Blindness (though I could not remember this scenery in the book or film)

...except casandra's that belong to the funniest, most interesting and imaginative (or over-imaginative?) ones, I suppose.

Author correct - he was blind in his later years.  The story appears in Ficciones so Casey was correct there.  Now which one...you'll get it in the end!

actually, Tabs got the author (from your Nobel clue) Posted Image and his progressive blindness was the reason why they migrated to Geneva- to get treatment...it's not from his fantastical/surrealistic/hypertext stories so I guess it's from the regular "gaucho" ones?
