Oh, it's Roadside Picnic then ? But then it was not earlier than Ilf and Petrov's Golden Calf which came out in 1931, but 40 years later, or did I misunderstand that in one of your earlier posts ? :)

I have never heard of this book, film or the authors before.smile.png  Now that I read the wikipedia article, I understand your clues about the black market and desires, though.

Next quote will come later, I guess biggrin.png

I've read about the book and the brothers but why give the clue about the Russian author winning the the Nobel prize?

Noble laureate and odd isn't mutually exclusive, is it ? laugh.png Here you go:

Writing on the same subject as this, the endocrinologist Dr. Dwight Ingle has recounted the following variant of a chestnut of immemorial origin:

PSYCHIATRIST: Why do you flail your arms around like that?

PATIENT: To keep the wild elephants at bay.

PSYCHIATRIST: But there aren't any wild elephants here.

PATIENT: That's right. Effective, isn't it?

English, 20th century, and I'm reading it at the moment laugh.png ...oh, and the first clue was in the first sentence of this post wink.png

No, and it's not a play. It's non-fictional prose and the short dialogue above is just an example ths author is giving to make a point in his text.

I don't think that Dr. Dwight Ingle, whoever he may have been, ever had the fortune of winning a Nobel Prize.... laugh.png and anyway, my quotes are not that easy biggrin.png

No... Here's a clue: When you think about Nobel laureates, think broader. There is more than one type of Nobel laureate ;)

Yes, another Nobel. And I already stated that it's non-fiction - here: smile.png
