The Freud hint was the giveaway Posted Image
Next quote coming in a few mins... Posted Image

Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;

Not english, 21st century and already a classic:

We will be the yeast that makes the bread rise.

Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;

would have thought of protest literature like Naomi Klein's No Logo, but that's almost all english...
I try it with Murakami's Ichi-kyū-hachi-yon (1Q84), though this is stuff tabs don't like Posted Image
One must presume that long and short arguments contribute to the same end. - Epicurus
...except casandra's that belong to the funniest, most interesting and imaginative (or over-imaginative?) ones, I suppose.

no correct guess so far.
I don't know the book by Murakami, is it Sci-Fi ? Posted Image

We haven't got the right genre yet, although you clearly understood the meaning of the quote correctly.

Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;

the only non-english non-fiction that comes to my mind is Gomorrah by Roberto Saviano...

I'm reluctant to give more clues as for now because it might become too easy.... Posted Image

well that's for Mlle C then I don't know any books that fulfils these criteria, though the list would be surely extremely short

OK, after the next unsuccessful guess by either of you I'll give a very good hint :)

Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;

No, and it's not a microbiology textbook either ;)
And it's outrageous that no one guessed it yet !!

Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;

well, it's not english...esp for non-fiction (and 21st century to boot) I'd have a tendency to read mostly english..give us a better clue then...:lol:

Did you spot the very good clue in my second sentence ?

Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;
