Read about carbohydrate chemistry first, then biochemical mechanism, Now think about food items and what carbohydrates they produce. Consider living organism e.g. cow eating food correlate food metabolism with energy production in animal.
Rough points. ofcourse essay will need most of non-jargon words so readers will not be scared off.
