I need information about rRNA in insects, like organization and secondary structure. I read an ancient paper (~1979) where is explained this organization in Drosophila and they say that ITS region is composed by 18S-ITS1-5.8S-ITS2a-2S-ITS2-28S (in this order). The typical organization is more simple, like 18S-ITS1-5.8S-ITS2-28S. Searching in databases I found that this especial organization is present in Diptera (only ??).
Other cuestion is how can I know where start and where finish each one of the rRNAs
(18S, 5.8S and 28S) because these are not genes and they dont have an AUG. I started comparing with some sequences in databases, but my sequences are a bit different, for example at the start of 5.8S (around four nucleotides).
If somebody can help me I'll be thankful
