I got a free sample of Q5 polymerase from NEB, and tested it out. Worked first time with remarkable processivity, copying a 2 kb region with a 30 second extension. I used the hot start version. This looks to be as good or better than Phusion.

interesting. i wish there were rt enzymes that could synthesize long cdna too, so that i didn't have to amplify small fragments to fuse them together with phusion. the problem with phusion is its higher tm compared to other products, making it not really suitable for oe-pcr
