What is the difference when we use cellulose sponges available in hardware shops that are made from plant cellulose with varying pore sizes Vs cellulose sponges used for 3D cell culture. Can the cellulose sponges also be used for mammalian tissue culture.

The ones from hardware shops will probably contain all sorts of residues from manufacturing and definitely won't be sterile, whereas the cell culture ones will be guaranteed sterile and residue free.  They will probably also be more homogenous, which is usually good for cell culture work - you don't want hypoxic areas or areas where there is no medium etc...
