What is meant with a "carpet" in gels for PCR products (well at least I think a phenomenon in gels is meant )?

I think it just means a uniform smear at no particular size.
I've not seen the term "carpet" used before but from the context I think that's what they mean.

thanks, and yes I imagined something similar but never had this in my PCRs so far...and well I'd call it too intense background perhaps (though that is not related to any products)
