Hi All,
I have a vial of Factor Xa from sigma (F9302-50UG).
The problem is, I dont know the concentration of the enzyme. Because my seniors have used the enzyme (Dont know the volume they have consumed) and i dont know the original volume of the enzyme to back calculate the concentration. I have also tried looking for the same in Sigma site but could not find any. So please, if anyone of u have used the same product please let me know the concentration.

the volume doesnt matter...
If I have 2 liters of concentration X and you use Yliters , then the concentration still stays X ...

Either you are mixing up something or you are checking the wrong information.

What do you know about the vial, I cant imagine that on the vial is written what the volume is and nothing else..


I found this safey sheet btw and it says it contains 10% of the protein..

In addition to what pito said, here's the Specification Sheet for that product: http://www.sigmaaldr...&symbol=F9302  
According to this it should be at ≤13.0mg/ml of protein, and there is ≥50 units/mg of protein.  

For the exact composition of your particular vial, look for the certificate of analysis, just need the catalogue number and the lot number, which should both be in the vial:  http://www.sigmaaldr...T=RS&N25=0&F=PR

And, as Pito said, if you know the concentration the volume doesn't matter.  Unless, it came as a powder, and you don't know what volume it was resuspended it, but I see in the specification sheet it says is an aqueous glycerol solution so it doesn't matter how much is left the concentration will be the same.

I Just know the total amount of protein i.e., 50ug, given in the vial when we bought it.

You say you don't know the concentration, but the stuff comes as a solution.  Doesn't it say anywhere the volume it came in?  I do buy some antibodies that come as say "100ug"  but it also says in the data sheet that is 100ul...  so that the concentration is easy to calculate.

Alternatively just phone Sigma and they should be able to tell you the concentration of the solution, with the cataloge and lot no.

are you sure about the 50µg ? Because I think you are mixing things up here..

Check the files.. it clearly states its a solution with 10% of the protein.. and the 50µg you are talking about is something else.. check the papers again...

Or as almost a doctor says: when in doubt, phone them (or email them)!
(they have people working there just to answer calls etc.. believe me.. you are not the first one with some questions!)
