Hi there,
I have a question about the freezing medium for MCF-10A. As some of you know, these cells require quite a fancy growth medium with EGF, Cholera toxin, hydrocortisone and insulin. ATCC recommends this complete growth medium, with the addition of 7.5% DMSO, to freeze the cells.
Now I have this really practical pre-mixed cell culture freezing medium called Recovery (Invitrogen), which is normal medium with DMSO, but certainly no EGF etc. Invitrogen says it works with a broad range of cells, and I used it with HeLa, 293T, HepG2 and it was fine.
So my question is whether any of you knows if I could use the convenient Recovery medium for my MCF-10A, without fancy supplements, to freeze the cells. Has anyone frozen MCF-10A in any freezing medium other than the complete medium w/ DMSO as recommended by ATCC, e.g., DMEM with serum and DMSO?
Thanks in advance for your answers!
Best
Felix
