Hi Bio Community,
I am currently at a bit of a loss for ideas here. What I need is a model protein for my experiments.
Here are the criteria that I hope it can/will posses:
- Phosphorescent/Fluorescent/Colored (any of these properties will suffice)
- Loses above said property when denatured (it looses function, it looses color)
- Can be purchased, and preferably in a lyophilized format (I do not have the capability of growing the protein)
- It is not chemically modified
- Easily soluble and rather stable
- Does not have carbohydrates, ect. attached to it. (glycoproteins)
- Does not need an external factor to visualize (for example B-gal and alkaline phosphatase)
I had originally thought that GFP would be a perfect candidate, but I cannot find anywhere to actually purchase the protein (only the plasmid that encodes it).
If ANYONE has any ideas or suggestions, they would of course be greatly appreciated!

Hmmm... I had hoped that it would be more affordable. 50ul at 1mg/ml for ~$150 is not going to be viable for the screening that I would like to do
Does anyone know of a more affordable option that would still fit my requirements?
PS. Thank you mdfenko for finding that for me.

Abcam sells 100ug for £180, that's a bit cheaper... You can find ~40 suppliers here: http://www.biocompar...cule.html?s=gfp
